Having experienced life-changing therapy myself from properly trained and certified therapists, I want to make it clear that I am not a therapist, and I work to ensure I am the right fit for the needs of my clients (and refer them to therapy if I’m not). If you aren’t sure, the analogy I give is someone who struggles to get out of bed early for marathon training (a goal above and beyond day-to-day life) vs someone who struggles to get out of bed and is at risk for losing their job (a typical part of day-to-day life).
I became a certified coach through iPEC (Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching) in June of 2024 to level up my skills even further and I am excited to partner with you!
I Am Not Your Therapist
I was 5 years into my thriving and hectic career, and my partner Chris was working on his first novel towards his dream of being an author. We had 1 car, so I was running all the errands before/after work, and the errands blurred into other household responsibilities…until one day when it dawned on me that you didn’t need a car to do MOST of what I was doing outside of work. Why was I doing it? I brought it up, he agreed, and thus began our journey for the next 10 years of trying different ways to “get it all done” - careers, kids, chores, rest, time for fun, the list never ends of course. And if we didn’t keep talking about it on a regular basis, we missed the moment life changed and suddenly I was doing too much again. Damn socially conditioned gender roles! (Which even impacts relationships of same-gender or gender non-conforming couples by the way…)
Over that time, we have discovered a few strategies and tools to share the tasks (and associated mental loads) that feels fair and has proved adaptable to life's inevitable changes. I’m calling it Homeplace Experience Design.
When I’m not giving people a (friendly) kick in the pants, I am having fun with my partner Chris of 16+ years and my 2 girls Buffy and Arya (yes, slayers of vampires and white walkers), reading too many books, and eating so much delicious food - some of which is actually made by yours truly! I love planning my life, and am learning to love letting that plan evolve…sometimes ;)
